The police have arraigned four men before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing 2,600 litres of diesel. The stolen diesel is valued N1.76m. The defendants- Mogbor Linus, Ernest Awam, Usman Musa, Umar Wada- were said to have committed the crime on the Victoria Island in the Eti-Osa area of Lagos State. The theft was said to have occurred for a period of 11 months and was not detected until in September 2013 when company’s account was audited. They were arraigned on three counts of stealing and receiving stolen goods. The charges read in part, “That you, Mogbor Linus, Ernest Awam, Usman Musa, Umar Wada, between November 2012 and September 2013, at 18B Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island in Eti-Osa LGA, within the Lagos Magisterial District did steal 2,600 litres of fuel valued N1,760,000 (One million, seven hundred and sixty thousand naira) property of one Ugochukwu Anyanwu.” The prosecutor, Idowu Oshungbare, said the offences were punishable under Sections 409, 285(1), 326(2)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011. They pleaded not guilty. The magistrate, Mr. J.A Adegun, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum. The matter was adjourned till October 2.
