Taraba Speaker’s attack: Police escorts receiving treatment in Keffi ****************************** The two injured police escorts attached to the Speaker of the Taraba House of Assembly, Mr Haruna Tsokwa, are now receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa State, an official of the hospital has said. Mr Jamil Nagogo, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, in Keffi, that the policemen were admitted in the hospital due to the injuries they sustained from the attack. The NAN recalls that the speaker’s motorcade was attacked on Wednesday by unknown gunmen at Jagindi village on the Jos-Abuja road. “It is true that two policemen attached to the convoy of the Speaker, Taraba State House of Assembly, are on admission in this hospital due to injuries they sustained from the attack. “The two injured policemen were brought to this hospital around 6.15 p.m on Wednesday, Sept. 18, for medical treatment. “The two affected police officers, during the attacked, were identified as Levi Kenneth and Daniel Innocent, both of whom are 35 years old, respectively. “Levi Kenneth sustained a penetrating left thigh injury due to gun-shot, while Daniel Innocent sustained blunt abdominal injury due to gun-shot also.” According to him, the officers are in stable condition as they are responding to treatment. NAN learnt that a commercial driver, Mr Rabiu Sani, 25, was also attacked by the gunmen soon after the speaker’s motorcade’s attack. But Nagogo said that Sani was referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) due to a head injury he sustained from the attack. Reacting to the development, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the state police command, ASP Cornelius Ocholi, told NAN that the police in Keffi was not aware of the attack. “Both the DPO and the Police Area Commander in Keffi said they were not aware of the attack. “May be the matter was not reported to them or they were yet to receive such report,” Ocholi said. - NAN
